LFC Foundation hosted a Road Safety Awareness football tournament for local youngsters at Anfield Sports and Community Centre on Friday.

Organised in collaboration with RoadPeace, the tournament saw U14s and U18s teams from LFC Foundation’s Premier League Kicks programme face representatives from Everton in the Community, Club Doncaster Foundation, Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, Stoke City and Newcastle United Foundation.

Merseyside Road Safety Partnership - which includes Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Highways England, Merseytravel and local councils - also delivered road safety workshops to the youngsters as part of the Kick Start Safe Roads project.

The initiative aims to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) on Merseyside roads by 2020.

LFC Foundation project lead, Tony Cosgrove, said: "We run tournaments like this regularly, because we know that football is a brilliant tool for engaging young people, educating them and getting them talking about critical topics like road safety.

"Today, the young people have not only enjoyed themselves, but will take away valuable information that may well save their lives."
