Luis Garcia admitted it was an honour for him to be able to play alongside Steven Gerrard in a red shirt again for the Liverpool FC Legends in Sydney on Thursday.

The duo shared some glorious moments together on the pitch for the Reds, including that never-to-be-forgotten night in Istanbul when against all the odds they helped the club win the Champions League in 2005.

And the pair were reunited once again this week as a Gerard Houllier managed LFC Legends team beat the Australian Legends 4-0 - and the Spaniard was proud to play alongside the returning captain.

“It was amazing and he’s still got it,” Garcia told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We could see how good he still is and hopefully he will stay playing for many years but we would like to have him [back] very soon with us with the LFC Legends team.”

Garcia was a double marksman on the night as the Reds heroes turned on the style to delight the Australian Reds.

He added: “I enjoyed it a lot. There was 40,000 people there, we won the game and the team was good, so I think it was a great day.

“For me it was very important to score [for Liverpool] again and I enjoyed it so much.

“In the last two games [against Real Madrid and Manchester United] we played well but didn’t get the win, but this time we played a great game and got the win.”

Also on the mark during the night were legendary goalscorers Ian Rush and John Aldridge who rolled back the years to come off the bench and show they have lost none of their deadly accuracy in front of goal.

Garcia said: “There are many stories they are always telling us about, they are part of the history of the football club and for us it’s very important to have them there.

“To see them playing and scoring goals was amazing for all of the lads.”
