There is no such thing as a friendly for Gerard Houllier and it will be standard procedure for the former Reds manager as he oversees the Liverpool FC Legends in action in Sydney on Thursday.

The Frenchman will be in the dugout at the ANZ Stadium as Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and a host of star names from the club’s history face the Australian Legends.

Fans can watch the game live on LFCTV and LFCTV GO, with kick-off at 8.30am GMT, including exclusive build-up and post-match reaction from the stadium.

Houllier’s determination to win has been obvious from the moment he landed in Australia and was clear from the instructions he gave the team at a meeting inside their hotel.

And he reiterated why combining a firm focus on the task in hand with a plan to enjoy the occasion is the ideal method to secure a victory.

“First of all, we want to win, particularly after the defeat in Madrid!” Houllier told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I wasn’t in Madrid but I felt the players want to get that out of their minds and the best way is to have a good game and win.

“We must enjoy these moments because they are very privileged being together, coming from different countries and different activities, being together and playing a game.

“But to enjoy it, we must focus on the football. Once we get to the football, we’ve got to be as professional as we were before.”
