Liverpool have bid £9.5million for Piotr Zielinski, but face competition from Napoli for the Udinese midfielder.

The Reds have been tracking Zielinski for months and boss Jurgen Klopp is understood to have phoned the Poland international to persuade him to join the Reds.

Napoli have offered £8.7million, plus add-ons for Zielinski, but president Aurelio De Laurentiis admits the 22-year-old would prefer a move to Anfield.

"Liverpool have made a bid for him and Zielinski wants to join them, but we are trying to convince the player to join us, because we have an agreement with Udinese," he said.

Zielinski played on loan at Empoli under Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and the Serie A side hope his close relationship with the Pole will boost their chances of landing him.
