Liverpool have held positive talks with Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic, according to reports.

The Reds have been linked with the 19-year-old after watching him play in the Serbian Super League.

It is said Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac is well aware of Grujic’s ability and has provided Jurgen Klopp with knowledge of the player.

Last week, Grujic admitted he had spoked to Liverpool.

He said: “It is certain that I remain here until the end of qualifying for the Champions League.

“I had a talk with Liverpool, but I did not receive yet any agreement. I'm still a Red Star player.

“I’ll try to respect the club, the fans and the general public, but I think that for myself I have to choose the best environment, where I will get the chance to play and where I work with good coaches in good conditions."

And Goal.com claim those talks were positive and Liverpool are now “hopeful” of finalising a deal.

The report does add that Serie A leaders Inter Milan are the frontrunners for the player due to Dejan Stankovic, who has played at Red Star and the Italian club.

But Chelsea have also tracked Grujic, who is friends with Nemanja Matic.

Red Star's asking price is thought to be around £5million.
