Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is on the trail of Red Star Belgrade midfielder Marko Grujic but faces a real battle to land him.

As well as the Reds, scouts from Manchester City, Manchester United, Wolfsburg and Feyenoord were watching on Sunday as Grujic sparked Red Star's comeback from a goal down to beat Cukaricki 7-2 and maintain their almost perfect record in the Serbian Super League.

Klopp will be looking to add to his squad in the new year, although he is keen to work with the players he currently has, and the 19-year-old midfielder has certainly caught the eye and he did not disappoint on Sunday.

He finished expertly from the edge of the box in the 13th minute to record his fifth goal of the season and ensure the scouts who had flocked to the stadium on the outskirts of Belgrade hadn't wasted their journey.

Red Star are aware they have a huge talent on their hands and have previously told United, Chelsea, Inter and Juventus that they won't sell him for less than £5million.

City's interest could force the price up but it is not heading into the prohibitive region and Liverpool would be able to fund the move for Grujic who has made it clear he wants to stay and win the league with Red Star before moving to western Europe - which seems almost inevitable after they opened up a 19-point lead on their rivals at the top of the table.
