Stuart Pearce believes Jordan Henderson is fully focused on helping England U21s to glory in the forthcoming European Championships - even though he's just secured a move to Liverpool.

The midfielder put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds to complete his transfer from Sunderland before flying out to Denmark to join up with his Three Lions teammates.

It was a similar situation for Phil Jones, who is thought to be on the verge of sealing a switch to Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers.

Pearce, however, is adamant the deals have not affected preparations for the tournament and is confident the pair can star for his side.

"It wasn't a hindrance because I know what sort of players I'm dealing with. Those two individuals are fantastically focused players and an absolute pleasure to work with," said the England coach.

"I had contact with both of them in respect to asking permission to go and speak to the clubs and tie up individual deals that they got.

"If I put myself in their position I would want a deal tied up before I went to a major championship. I wouldn't want to be worrying about it while I'm at the championship and I think that was their mentality as well.

"So they've got those deals all signed and sealed. They were with us last night, then back on the training pitch today with no problems at all and we're pleased for them.

"They are extremely talented players so I'm not surprised that clubs are looking to vie for their services."
