Jay Spearing believes Luis Suarez will form a partnership with Andy Carroll that will cause 'mayhem' for defenders next season.

The diminutive midfielder has been hugely impressed by the Uruguayan's performances since his January arrival and is relishing the thought of seeing him regularly link up with the big No.9.

"Not only is Luis scoring goals but he is creating them as well," Spearing said.

"We see what he can do every day in training and he's a pain to come up against.

" He takes that on to the pitch and causes mayhem for defenders.

"He's done that from the moment he came in.

"Luis has shown what he's all about with the work ethic he puts in for the team and it's great to see.

"It's not about himself, he loves to set up other players. If he keeps doing that for the rest of this season and into next season we'll be looking good. His partnership with Andy Carroll is going to be very dangerous."

The 5-2 victory over Fulham represented yet another occasion when Spearing excelled at the heart of the midfield.

The 22-year-old admits he is relishing his role alongside Lucas Leiva and revealed that it is a determination to remain in the starting XI that is spurring him on.

"The boss has put his trust in me and hopefully I'm paying him back," he added.

"Everyone is fighting for places. It's been like that in training with everyone giving their all and at Fulham we showed again what we are all about."

He continued: "The manager talked to us before the game about starting quickly and trying to put them under pressure.

"After the first goal we just wanted to get more and more, and we managed to keep the tempo going.

"The whole team is a solid unit now.

"That's shown in the way we work when we haven't got the ball.

"We're improving and playing good football."
