Dirk Kuyt was today named the Standard Chartered LFC Player of the Month for April.

The Dutch star tallied 45 per cent of your vote in an exclusive poll on this website to comfortably see off competition from Luis Suarez (19 per cent) and Lucas Leiva (13 per cent).

Our No.18 netted three goals in four April outings, including a last-gasp spot-kick in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

In fact, his recent hot-streak has now seen him notch eight times in seven league matches to take his total to the season to 14 in all competitions.

Upon being presented with the award at Melwood, Kuyt told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's great. We've all had a great month and it's been especially pleasing for me to score in our last four games.

"It's a nice feeling to be important for the team but I think the main thing is that we are playing really well with a lot of confidence. That makes it easier as an individual."

Reflecting upon his 102nd minute equaliser at Arsenal, he said: "It was a bit of a crazy game. We worked really hard that day and we also had some bad luck with injuries.

"The youngsters came in and we kept working hard but then we conceded the late goal to Van Persie.

"We kept going and I think we deserved the penalty. It was a special moment to get the equaliser.

"It is important that the team are doing well and showing confidence. Everybody looks in better form and that is down to the manager and all of the lads for working hard."

Kuyt was also keen to express his gratitude to the fans who voted for him.

He added: "It's very special. I always feel the respect of the supporters. They are some of the greatest in the world. Other players have said it in the past, but they are always a big help for us."
