Newcastle stopper Tim Krul admits the prospect of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in tandem is a frightening one.

The ex-Toon striker faces a race against time to be fit to face his old teammates - but if he does line-up for the Reds on Sunday Krul is anticipating a busy afternoon.

"Andy and Luis Suarez are two big players and to see them together is amazing," said Krul.

"To see Andy again and face him would be good. We faced each other this season for the U21s.

"Suarez has been great at Liverpool and was at Ajax.

"Since he came to England he has been great straight away and it will be a hard game at Anfield."

Krul is well placed to discuss the strengths of both Carroll and Suarez.

The 23-year-old became great friends with the England hot-shot during his time at St James' Park while his presence in Holland's U21 squad means his international teammates have told him all about the impact Suarez had at Ajax.

"Suarez can score from anywhere. All of his goals have been pretty special. When I have spoken to my friends from the U21s or from Ajax they do not know how he does it," he said.

"It looks like he is taking a bad touch on purpose, but he has the speed to go round people.

"He is dangerous. We have to make sure we are ready for him."

Krul's emergence at Newcastle coincided with Carroll's first steps on the first-team scene.

The duo made their Toon bow together in a UEFA Cup match back in 2006 and the Dutch 'keeper revealed that he still ribs the Liverpool No.9 over a club record he 'nicked' off him on the same night.

Krul said: "We made our debuts together in Palermo when we were young lads.

"It was an emotional night in Italy before it because we knew we were playing in a big UEFA Cup game.

"I always say to him he nicked my record because I would have been the youngest player.

"He came on for a couple of minutes and nicked it off me!

"We have always been big mates. We came through the youth team and reserves together.

"It is good to see Andy doing well at Liverpool, but we will have to make sure he does not score against us."
