Mamadou Sakho played the full 90 minutes as France got their World Cup quest off to a winning start with a 3-0 victory against Honduras in Group E.

After dominating the majority of the opening half, France finally secured a breakthrough in the final seconds - Karim Benzema calmly swiped a penalty into the back of the net.

Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios received a second yellow card in conceding the spot-kick, leaving Sakho and co in complete control at the interval.

Just two minutes had passed after the restart before Benzema forced a second; his fierce drive smacked the post, struck the goalkeeper and rolled in, being awarded via goal-line technology.

The Real Madrid striker rounded off a handsome result for the French by blasting home after a rebound had bounced kindly into his path in opposition territory.

France and Sakho are back in action next Friday, when they face Switzerland in Salvador.
