Dirk Kuyt collected his second piece of silverware in the space of a few days after being presented with the official LFC Malta Supporters' Club's Player of the Season award for 2010-11 on Thursday.

The Dutch forward, who struck 15 goals in 41 appearances for the Reds last term, was handed the accolade by branch chairman Charlie Farrugia and treasurer Mario Gatt at Melwood.

Kuyt said: "I am very proud. It's always nice to get respect from the people of a supporters' club. Everyone knows how big the club is, not only in England, but all over the world, and it says a lot that these people have come over here to see me and present this nice award.

"But I'm not surprised anymore. I've been here almost six years and from when we've travelled, mainly during pre-season, or when you see the people that come to watch the team, you realise how big the club is.

"Everywhere you go in the world you'll find Liverpool supporters, and that shows how big this club is.

"It's always great to get the respect of fans. Not only do we have a lot of fans here in Liverpool, but we also have a lot of fans all over the world and having their respect means a lot to me.

"I'd like to thank the fans who voted for me. I think I had a good season last season, especially in the second half, and it's great all these people have voted for me and like to watch me play."

Members of the Malta Supporters' Club voted in their thousands - but Farrugia revealed Kuyt was the clear winner.

He said: "We've been doing this for the last 10 years. The members of our club vote for their Player of the Season on our website.

"Dirk was the clear winner and I think it is the right choice. He had a fantastic season and you saw last Sunday in the cup final what an important player he is for us.

"I am sure he will be considered a Liverpool legend in years to come."
