Daniel Agger admits Liverpool have enjoyed a perfect week following their cup victories over both Manchester clubs - but insists it's vital they maintain the momentum against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday in order to improve their league position.

The Dane was on target as the Reds beat Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, just days after securing a place in the Carling Cup final at the expense of Manchester City.

Agger believes Kenny Dalglish's side can draw plenty of confidence from their last two results as they attempt to rise into the top four.

The defender told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We defended well and they didn't really have that many chances. They had a lot of possession, but not a lot of chances.

"We did well. United are a tough team to play against with good footballers. I don't think you can talk about who deserved to win because it's football and anything can happen.

"It's been the perfect week for Liverpool in the cups, definitely. We got what we wanted.

"We always take confidence going forward when we win, but to win in the cup and get through to the next round gives you more confidence.

"It's an important game at Wolves. We want to get further up the table. It's not good enough where we are now, so we need the three points."

He added: "We knew that we could beat anyone in the league before the results this week, but it'll be a tough game on Tuesday and we'll need to play well to win."

Agger's 21st minute header gave Liverpool the lead against United on Saturday, but Ji-Sung Park levelled for the visitors just before half-time.

However, with just two minutes left on the clock, Dirk Kuyt latched onto Andy Carroll's flick before firing home at the Kop end to secure victory.

For Agger, it was his first goal since netting in a Europa League tie with Benfica in April 2010, and he admits it was a sweet feeling.

"It's always a good feeling when the ball hits the back of the net," he said.

"Just like any player would say, the most important thing is the win, but to score is always a nice feeling.

"It was a good goal from Dirk, but it was also a great set-up as well. Andy did really well to flick it on.

"It was a great result. To beat United at home is always nice, especially in the FA Cup."
