Liverpool have made enquiries about River Plate striker Lucas Alario, a source close to the Argentine club has told ESPN FC.

Alario, 23, has impressed at River Plate since joining from Colon last summer and scored 10 goals in 19 appearances this season.

He helped River win the Copa Libertadores and also scored the winner in the Club World Cup semifinal against Sanfrecce Hiroshima in December before losing the final to Champions League holders Barcelona.

A source has told ESPN FC that Liverpool have been scouting Alario for some time and have sounded them out about a move for the forward, who is rated as one of best young prospects in the country.

River are reluctant to lose Alario, but are bracing themselves for an offer for their star striker.
