Liverpool legends Craig Johnston, Gary McAllister and Jason McAteer are set to land in Sydney days ahead of the first-team friendly on May 24, to spend time with fans.

The former Reds trio will kick off the club’s visit by supporting local charities, learning about local culture and taking part in a number of community events across the city.

Johnston, McAllister and McAteer will join local children at coaching clinics being run in conjunction with Australian charities including the Reagan Milstein Foundation and Football United.

They will also attend an LFC community football tournament and pay a special visit to young people at cancer charity CanTeen in Newtown.

The legends have the opportunity to meet local supporters as they take in the Reds’ final Premier League game of the season alongside fans at an LFC viewing party on Sunday May 21.

Johnston said: “Australians are a very savvy football audience, they are very loyal, passionate and knowledgeable about Liverpool FC. The club feels that sincerity, which is why it keeps coming back.”

McAteer said: “The LFC family reaches far and wide, and Australia is no exception to that. We have got so many passionate fans in Australia that follow the team religiously and it will be an absolute pleasure to get out there and meet some of them.”

McAllister said: “I experienced a taste of the fan base in Australia when I visited Brisbane and Adelaide with the club in 2015 and I’m delighted to be returning. I can’t wait to meet the fans in Sydney and to get involved in the local community activities the club has planned.”

The Reds are set to take on Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday May 24, in a unique showcase that will see Jürgen Klopp’s first team take to the pitch alongside four LFC greats: Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger, Jamie Carragher and Steve McManaman.
