Recent weeks have 'not been easy' for Philippe Coutinho but Jürgen Klopp has spotted encouraging signs from the Liverpool No.10 ahead of the clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazil international has yet to rekindle the magic he showed earlier in the season since returning from an extended lay-off with an ankle injury in mid-January.

But Klopp is buoyed by what he has seen from Coutinho at Melwood in the build-up to a crunch contest with fellow top-four contenders Spurs this evening.

“Phil is the type of guy who takes everything in games,” said the manager. “It’s not been easy for him. He takes all the responsibility in the world.

“Yes, [he tries to do too much]. That’s him. He has had a very good week in training. We have seen some very good signs from him.”

Likewise Sadio Mane, who was back in the starting line-up for the Reds at Hull City last weekend following his participation at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Klopp said of the Senegal international: “You saw the first half, you saw the second half and you think ‘OK, that is not how he usually is.’

“You cannot know before. You have to take it. But he is another one who has had a really good week in training. That’s how it is.”
