A unique table tennis challenge recently took place at Melwood - as Jürgen Klopp joined forces with a special guest to do battle against Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year - the Year of the Rooster - the Liverpool manager paired with Liu Haoyu, UK university champion, to face the Brazilian duo in a best-of-three contest.

Liu Haoyu was dispatched to the training ground by Deng Yaping, 18-time world champion, ahead of the annual festivity, which will begin on Saturday January 28.

With Coutinho proclaiming himself the club's finest with a paddle on one side of the net, and a rusty Klopp returning to the table for the first time in three decades on the other, an intriguing match ensued.

But would the players let the boss win? Could Klopp rediscover his form from 30 years ago? And would Liu Haoyu's talent and experience tip the balance?
