Loris Karius is convinced that the 'high quality' of Liverpool's squad will come to the fore in the absence of the injured Philippe Coutinho.

Jürgen Klopp confirmed on Monday that his No.10, who was forced off 34 minutes into the weekend win over Sunderland at Anfield, is likely to face a spell on the sidelines.

But Karius says a stint without the Brazilian is a chance for the Reds to show their strength in depth in attacking areas.

"We have a big squad and everyone is fresh because we haven't had many games," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"We change a good player out and we still have high quality coming in. That's a very good sign.

"Everyone is confident that when we have to change a player, the player coming on keeps the level or even lifts it so that's a really good thing for us."

Liverpool remain one point off the summit of the Premier League after their victory over the Mackems on Saturday.

But Karius is refusing to get carried away after a strong start to the season, and has acknowledged the strength of the sides around the Reds at the top of the division.

"It still feels like it's a very long way away. There are a lot of games to play. We can't look that far ahead," he added.

"Of course it feels good for the whole team when you look at the table every week and you stay up there.

"I think this season is going to be very close. There are very good teams at the top so we need to focus and keep on going."
