Adam Lallana marked a Man of the Match performance with an exquisite header as England beat Scotland 3-0 in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley.

The Liverpool midfielder found the net for the second time in as many games for his country as they consolidated top spot in Group F with the win.

And Lallana was grateful for the quality of Danny Rose’s delivery from the left flank, which allowed him to nod in the Three Lions’ second of the night.

“I don’t get many headers!” he said post-match.

“It was more about the cross – there was so much pace on it. I just had to get good direction and I found the bottom corner.”

The Three Lions had taken a first-half lead through a header from Reds forward Daniel Sturridge, who clinically sent the ball past the goalkeeper on an angle.

Gary Cahill completed the scoring on the hour for Gareth Southgate’s side – who also had Jordan Henderson in midfield – and Lallana felt the timing of the strikes was crucial.

He added: “We started the game very sloppily.

“We said a few things to each other at half-time, and the manager did. In the second half, we got the goals at the right time.”
