Simon Mignolet has shared his belief as to why 2016-17 can be a very successful one for Liverpool.

The Belgium international insists Jürgen Klopp’s charges are more than capable of reaching the top-four as well as fighting to bring some silverware back to the famous Anfield trophy cabinet.

Speaking to Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports, Mignolet said: “We are not in Europe this year so it gives us a good chance to do something.

“Last year we managed to play in two cup finals, including one in Europe, so hopefully we can win one this year.

“We want to do well in the Premier League and the objective is always to get into the top-four. We want to get back in the Champions League.

“This is Liverpool Football Club and the club has a history of challenging in England and also in Europe, and we want to get back to that.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane the No.22 insists it was an encouraging display from the Reds.

He added: “It was a very intensive game. Both teams like to press high and we did really well.

“In the first half we were the better side and probably should have scored more than just the one goal.”

Mignolet also spoke of the support he has received from Klopp and admits it has given him a lot of confidence.

“He has been very supportive,” he said.

“What is very important in your position as a goalkeeper is you can make your own decisions because you have to start the game off, you have to start the play and you have to feel confident.

“To have that confidence of the manager and the players makes it easier.”
