Simon Mignolet was delighted with Liverpool's performance throughout their 4-0 thrashing of Everton in the 226th Merseyside derby and insisted: 'it could have been more'.

The Reds were in rampant mood at Anfield on Wednesday evening as their push for a place in Europe next season was strengthened with a satisfying win over the Toffees.

That Jürgen Klopp's men clocked up 37 shots to the opposition's three provided a fair summary of the one-sided nature of the game.

As a result, Mignolet believes the scoreline may even have flattered the visitors.

"It's always nice [to win derbies], especially at home, you want to get a good result," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"I think we played really well, the first 20 minutes Everton had some dangerous counter-attacks but after that we scored our goals at the right time - just before half-time - that makes it easier.

"With the red card afterwards we played our football, created a lot of chances, and it could've been more."

The loss of Divock Origi to an ankle injury caused by a tackle that saw Ramiro Funes Mori sent off in the second half was the only small downside for the Reds on a memorable night.

But Mignolet revealed that his fellow Belgian was in good spirits in the dressing room and so he is not too worried about the long-term prognosis.

"The only disappointment is that Divock got injured, let's hope it's not too bad and he'll be there with us until the end of the season," he added.

"He was already positive after the game, so that's a good sign.

"Let's hope for him that it's not too bad, because that's the only thing that was a little bit on the negative side tonight."
