Jürgen Klopp has called for his side to demonstrate their best on a more consistent basis after conceding Liverpool didn't reach their highest levels in Thursday's goalless draw in the Europa League cash with FC Augsburg.

Despite an improved showing in the second half, the Reds were unable to break down a stern Augsburg defence at the WWK Arena in the first leg of the last 32 tie.

“My feeling was we could have done better," Klopp said after the game.

"We always should always try to do it as good as we are able to. I know the boys want [to perform] but there's different reasons why it doesn't work.

"Aston Villa was a game where this team was not tuned as they have not played often together in this formation but it worked really good.

"On Thursday, it was more difficult with a really tactical game of Augsburg, they made defence tactics really good so it was not too easy."

While the 48-year-old was not totally satisfied with the outing from his team in midweek, he insists they are in a good position heading into the return home fixture next week.

"We should be realistic," Klopp added. "The result is good in [a] Europa League first leg away game, that's absolutely OK.

"Our performance, we had a few good moments. We could have scored goals but as a complete game I am not too satisfied to be honest.

"You see we fight for consistency, it's a really hard fight. We have the rematch next week at Anfield so that's good for us."
