He may just be three competitive games into his Liverpool career, but James Milner feels he’s already witnessed enough to suggest this is an exciting time to be a part of the club.

The midfielder, who was signed from Manchester City in July, has enjoyed a seamless start to life with the Reds – so much so, he’s even been named as vice-captain by Brendan Rodgers.

Milner’s tenacity and wealth of experience has been a hallmark of the team’s unbeaten start to 2015-16, and the man himself is feeling extremely content.

“I am enjoying it very much, that is why I came here,” he said.

“You want to be among good, experienced players and a blend of English talent and foreign players. Everything is there.

“You look down the squad list and on the bench and it is a strong balance. You need a good squad to do anything and we will definitely have that.”

Milner added: “I think it is an exciting time to be at the club.

“There have obviously been a lot of changes on and off the field in the summer and I think it will take time to get to our best.

“But to start the season like we have is pleasing. We don’t want to put any targets on it, but the longer we get into this season and the more we play together, you will see us improve more and more.

“I am delighted to have joined Liverpool and am enjoying every minute. It is a club used to winning and every time we step on to the field the fans expect to win – that is a nice pressure to have.”

Liverpool maintained their undefeated streak with a goalless draw at Arsenal on Monday evening.

Justifiably, the Reds can feel as though they perhaps deserved more from the contest at the Emirates having hit the woodwork twice and come close on a couple of other occasions during a dominant first-half spell.

“Any time you can come away from Arsenal and be disappointed with a draw is a good night,” Milner reflected.

“There are very promising signs. It will take time. I don’t think that is anywhere near the best we can play but again it is an improvement.

“Defensively we were brilliant again and you could see the fluidity in our play at times as well.

“We will get better and better the more we play together but to go away and play like that was pleasing.”
