Today marks the official 122nd birthday of Liverpool Football Club.

The foundations of what would become the Reds were put into place in March 1892, when John Houlding and his close associates split from Everton FC to create a brand new team.

Remaining at Anfield but requiring a different name to play under, Houlding and his friends agreed upon their vision, beginning with the first rule: 'That the club be called Liverpool Football Club and shall play under the Rules of the Football Association.'

However, it was not until June 3 of the same year that the club - named Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company Limited - was formally recognised by the Board of Trade, and the Reds were born when Houlding received the certificate above.

A total of 41 major honours, including 18 league championships and five European Cups, have since been won by Liverpool FC, who are still England's most successful club.
