Sterling on target in six-goal rout
Raheem Sterling was on the scoresheet as England U21s thrashed their Scottish counterparts 6-0 in a friendly at Bramall Lane on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom skippered the young Lions and completed almost 75 minutes, while on-loan full-back Jack Robinson played the full match.
England put themselves ahead within three minutes of kick-off, with Norwich winger Nathan Redmond clipping home a clever finish from an assist by former Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Seven minutes before the half-time break, Liverpool forward Sterling doubled the Three Lions' advantage with a composed strike following a fortunate deflection for the home side.
Two became three shortly after the second period resumed through Connor Wickham, who converted a superb lob over Scotland goalkeeper Jordan Archer with aplomb.
Everton midfielder Ross Barkley turned a straightforward victory into a rout moments later, and within seconds Shelvey had racked up a fifth for England with a sensational strike.

Sterling had an opportunity to make it six but guided his effort wide of the post, before substitute Tom Carroll did indeed increase the hosts' tally to a half-dozen.
Scotland were afforded some respite when Sterling was withdrawn by Roy Hodgson and, even more to their relief, no more goals followed in what was a highly impressive win for Wisdom and co.
