Young Liverpool supporter Gus Schofield will see his name on the back of a No.5 shirt at an upcoming home game after winning the club’s #1in5million competition on the Reds’ official Twitter account.

To celebrate reaching five million followers on the social media platform, @LFC asked fans to submit, with the use of photos and videos, reasons why they deserved to see their username printed on a special jersey to be hung in Anfield’s home dressing room alongside those belonging to first-team stars on a Barclays Premier League matchday.

A shortlist of five entries was picked by members of the club’s media team before Ronnie Whelan, who wore No.5 during his Reds career, announced the contest’s two finalists in the LFCTV studio.

With only Gus and Dylan Dacosta left in contention for the prize, which includes a matchday hospitality package for two at Liverpool’s clash with West Brom on December 13, the decision on the winner was left to a poll on the club’s Twitter page for fellow fans to vote on.

Gus, from Warrington, pipped Dylan to the majority of the votes as his collection of No.5 shirts spanning numerous seasons secured a 54 per cent share of the picks by the time the competition closed at 5pm GMT on Monday.

Ontario-based Dylan constantly ran his competitor close throughout the voting as the Liver Bird painted on the top of his car swayed an impressive portion of the near-20,000 people who contributed to the poll.

The people whose submissions made the shortlist of five will receive 2015-16 home shirts with their respective Twitter usernames printed on, and another will soon hang at Anfield with @gus_schofield03 on the back.
