Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic, according to reports.

The centre-back is under contract with the Bundesliga side until June 2018.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp brought the Serbian to Dortmund in 2008, but the defender has been used sparingly under Thomas Tuchel this season.

The Reds tried to bring the Serbian international to Anfield on loan in January while Hamburg have also been linked with a move for the 27-year-old.

But German newspaper Bild claim the Hamburg have been priced out of a move for Subotic, and Klopp is said to be waiting to pounce in the summer.

Despite Liverpool's interest in Subotic, Dortmund boss Tuchel admitted last month he will not consider selling him.

"To Subotic, I can say that we need him as an integral part of the team," he said.

"If it remains solely my decision, there is not the slightest reason for a change."
