Liverpool target Denis Cheryshev could leave Real Madrid today, Zinedine Zidane has confirmed.

Cheryshev, a 25-year-old Russia winger, has been a target for Liverpool since the summer, when they had a bid rejected by the Spaniards’ then manager Rafa Benitez.

The Merseysiders are still reported to be interested in his signature, and Zidane, the Real head coach, confirmed after his side’s 6-0 win over Espanyol on Sunday that the player could leave.

“We'll see but yes, Cheryshev could leave,” Zidane told reporters. “He's a great player but he needs to be playing regularly. The most important thing for him is that he gets minutes. He is a hard-working player and he needs to be building up playing time. I wish him the best.”

Cheryshev has featured just six times for Real Madrid this season. Zidane added: “If he has the chance to leave, I’d be delighted for him. We’ll see what happens.”

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea were all rumoured to be interested in his signature, but Spanish radio Cadena COPE report Liverpool are closest to securing him.
