Ahead of the Capital One Cup final at Wembley on Sunday, club statistician Ged Rea provides a historical look at Liverpool's record in the League Cup in numbers.

42 - The player who has appeared most times for the club without ever appearing in a final is Steve Nicol. He played on 42 occasions from 1981 to 1995.

45 - The number of different players who have taken a spot kick in a League Cup penalty shoot-out. 36 of them have scored. For the record, the player who has taken the most is Adam Lallana (4).

48 - Ian Rush holds the record for scoring the most goals for one club in the competition. He also holds the record of most goals in total (49) along with Geoff Hurst.

53 - Bob Paisley has taken charge of Liverpool in this competition more times than any other manager.

78 - Not only is Rush the club's record scorer in the League Cup, he has also made more appearances than any other Liverpool player, eight more than Bruce Grobbelaar.

453 - The number of goals scored by the Reds in this competition's history. The first was scored by Tommy Leishman against Luton in 1960.

9,902 - when Liverpool beat Brentford at Anfield in the second leg of a second-round tie in 1983 they were watched by their lowest ever home attendance in the competition.

50,880 - Their biggest ever home attendance in the competition saw Liverpool draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield in 1980. The visitors won the tie 2-1 on aggregate.
