Martin Skrtel has revealed that Danny Ings' immense work-rate is not on show just on matchdays but replicated every single day in training.

The summer signing from Burnley has won appreciation at the outset of his Liverpool career thanks to the energy and enthusiasm he’s brought to the team’s attack.

A first competitive goal for the Reds was achieved against Norwich City earlier this month and followed up by another Anfield strike, past Carlisle United.

Ings was not on target during the 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday but still earned praise from the manager for his link-up play with the returning Daniel Sturridge.

The No.28’s impact in three starts and three substitute appearances so far has already encouraged the Kop to sing his name with gusto too.

It’s a set of events that hasn’t surprised Skrtel, who faced the Englishman twice in opposition last season and therefore knew exactly what to expect.

“I know he didn’t score but facing him was tough, really tough. I remember how he never stopped running and moving,” said the centre-back.

“If you switched off for even a second he was gone and he’s been the same in training here. I’m glad he’s with us now.

“The amount of work he puts in every day is huge and I’m hoping he can score lots of goals this season.”
