A youthful Liverpool U18s side began their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win over Birmingham City at the Academy on Wednesday night.

The friendly was split into three 30-minute periods as the youngsters enjoyed a valuable workout.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's line-up predominantly featured U17s, and there was also the welcome sight of Oakley Cannonier back in action after returning from injury.

Reflecting on the encounter, Bridge-Wilkinson told Liverpoolfc.com: "We had a really young side out and the boys did well.

"It was great to give them valuable minutes and a lot of the boys managed to play for an hour, which was pleasing.

"The boys have been working really hard and it was great to see Oakley back in action and looking sharp."
