Liverpool U18s enjoyed a 5-1 friendly victory over a Coaching Connexions college side linked to Rochdale FC at the Academy on Friday.

Barry Lewtas’s side fell behind to the visitors in the 40-minutes-each-way test but goals from Dominic Corness (penalty), Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson, Luca Stephenson and an own goal saw the young Reds run out comfortable winners.

“It was a midweek game for those who maybe aren’t always playing regularly to get some minutes,” Lewtas told Liverpoolfc.com.

“It was also good for some of the other lads to get a run out after a tough weekend last weekend and dust ourselves down.

“The lads have trained really hard this week and it was good to get a game to get ourselves going again.

“It was a good game, they scored first and came out of the blocks fast. But once we got into our way we played some really nice stuff and created loads of chances.

“It’s nice when the college teams come in because they are so enthusiastic, they press, they work hard and they gave it a good go.”
