Catch up on another busy month of Academy football with our review of the key events for Liverpool's youngsters during December.

There were some memorable goals, a few last-minute winners, and a new contract for a promising midfielder.

Bobby Duncan started the month on fire in front of goal, netting four times in an incredible away game for the U18s at Middlesbrough. In a contest of high drama, the Reds came back from 5-4 down to win 6-5 with Duncan also providing an assist for Paul Glatzel’s last-gasp decider.

Yasser Larouci scored a stunning goal as Liverpool U23s got over their heavy loss to Villarreal with an impressive 3-1 win over Hertha BSC. It was a strike German legend Jurgen Klinsmann, watching his son between the posts for Hertha, would have been proud of.

U23s and U18s bring Christmas cheer to Alder Hey…

Liverpool’s Academy squads made their special Christmas visit to Alder Hey to bring festive cheer to the patients. Visiting the Liverpool hospital is also a regular occurrence throughout the year for the U18 and U23 teams.

Glatzel nets another treble as quarter-final place is sealed…

Glatzel scored goals for fun in the first half of 2018-19 and he was at it again with his second hat-trick of the campaign as Bournemouth were put to the sword in the Premier League Cup. The 3-0 win secured the U18s passage to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Liam Millar continued his hot steak in front of goal during a thrilling 4-1 win for Liverpool U23s over Freddie Ljungberg’s Arsenal in Premier League 2. Emerging off the bench, the Canada international netted two superb goals as Neil Critchley’s side produced a brilliant performance.

Euro qualification sealed in style for the U19s…

Liverpool U19s secured their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Youth League courtesy of a thumping 5-0 win over Napoli at St Helens. After putting five past Paris Saint-Germain in their opening group game, another five-star showing came against the Italians, thanks to goals from Rafael Camacho, Millar, Glatzel, Curtis Jones and Duncan.

Liam Coyle on his love of LFC and BOSS Nights with Jamie Webster…

U23s midfielder Liam Coyle is well renowned for his love of Liverpool FC and also revealed he is a regular visitor to the BOSS Nights in the city which have become iconic featuring Jamie Webster.

Coyle said: “I’ve been to a few of the BOSS Nights. I love them! All the Liverpool songs get sung, I know them word for word and me and my older brother always go. It really is a boss atmosphere!”

Another last-gasp winner as Reds seal FA Youth Cup progress...

Liverpool U18s reached the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup after a dramatic 3-2 win over Portsmouth at St Helens. Despite the Reds going 2-0 up, the away side fought back to level the score. But just as extra-time was looking likely, the deadly strike duo combined brilliantly with Glatzel setting up Duncan for the winner. Accrington Stanley at home await in the fourth round.

A new deal for Herbie…

The month ended with promising midfielder Herbie Kane penning a new contract. The former Bristol City youngster is enjoying a fruitful loan spell in League One with Doncaster Rovers and his form has certainly not gone unnoticed.

Upon signing a deal, Kane said: “It is massive, coming from a massive club like Liverpool, so I’m happy.

“I was excited to get it done. It took a lot of hard work to get this, but thankfully it is done. Hopefully I can carry on working hard and get to where I want to be.”
