Manchester United and Barcelona have reportedly made approaches to sign Timo Werner but the forward is holding out for Liverpool to make a serious move.

Werner is expected to be at the centre of a tug of war in the summer transfer window, with several of Europe’s elite clubs interested in the 23-year-old attacker who has scored 27 goals in 33 games for Leipzig this term.

The Germany international has a release clause in his contract which means he can join a rival club for a fee of £51million, but an agreement must be reached before Leipzig’s deadline in April so they have sufficient time to find a replacement.
