Liverpool could be in line to land Porto's Hector Herrera in a cut-price deal at the end of the season, Portuguese publication A Bola reports.

Herrera, 26, is considered one of world football's most complete midfielders, but recent performances have led to him falling out of favour with the Estadio do Dragao faithful.

Napoli were credited with a strong interest in the Mexico international over the summer, though reports claim a deal could not be reached, while Juventus and Liverpool were also keeping tabs.

The most recent rumblings claim Liverpool are now at the head of the pack, however, and could land Herrera for around half of his buyout clause, which is £40m, in the summer window.

Herrera himself is said to be eager to stay with Porto, but the club appear willing to sell should the right offer arise.
