Arsenal, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have all been put on alert after Gonzalo Higuain's agent revealed he won't be renewing his contract with Napoli.

The Argentine striker scored 38 goals for the Italian side last season and his form has attracted interest from a number of big-hitters from England and Spain.

Higuain has a current buyout clause worth a reported £72m but, after hearing he won't be extending his stay in Naples beyond 2018, clubs may wait until next summer when Napoli will be forced to drop their asking price to avoid losing him for nothing.

Napoli's agent and brother, Nicolas Higuain, told Radio Continental: "We arrived with a Champions League project, of being champions, of growing, and the response of the company was not the most correct.

"It's their right to ask for his buyout clause, but we will opt for the path of not renewing the contract and he will be free in 2018.

"In these conditions we are going to respect the contract that we have with Napoli but we are not going to renew it under any circumstances. Gonzalo is super professional and will continue to give the maximum."
