Liverpool are monitoring Anderlecht midfielder Samuel Bastien, according to reports.

Bastien is currently on loan at Avellino in Serie B and has made 24 appearances so far this season in the league.

The 19-year-old has impressed scouts from his own country, with a first call-up to the Belgium under-21s said to be imminent.

And reports in Italy also suggest that Liverpool have been tracking the midfielder’s progress.

The Reds are said to have already made a move for the player last summer but he instead made a loan move to Italy.

Liverpool have not been dissuaded from signing him however, and have once again made contact with his parent club in Belgium about his availability.

But his excellent performances in the second tier of Italian football have not gone unnoticed.

While Liverpool are the most interested party, Roma, Fiorentina and Sevilla are all reportedly keen to be made aware of any developments in his movements.

The fee is expected to be around £5.2million but that is exclusive of significant add-ons depending on Bastien’s success.

Should Liverpool complete the deal this summer, the youngster will likely be the fourth signing of the Jurgen Klopp era.

Marko Grujic, also a teenager, completed his move to Anfield in January before being loaned straight back to Red Star Belgrade while Steven Caulker was brought in on a temporary deal as defensive cover.

And when the transfer window opens this summer Joel Matip will complete a free-transfer move from Schalke.
