Liverpool are the new leaders in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach star Granit Xhaka, according to reports in Germany.

The Reds will look to bulk up their squad in the summer with Jurgen Klopp needing to address several positions.

Midfield will be on the agenda and Xhaka, after impressing in the Bundesliga, looks like he will come into the discussion.

And German paper Bild report that Liverpool are ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for his signature.

Klopp is supposed to be fan having watched him in Germany while with Borussia Dortmund.

And, despite already adding Marko Grujic, wants him to come in and improve his options.

The Reds currently have Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Lucas and Joe Allen all competing for places.

Xhaka would cost in the region of £30million and has been at Monchengladbach since 2012.

The 23-year-old has 39 Switzerland caps.
