The LFC Foundation’s Community Fund has enabled a local school to purchase specialist equipment for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND).

Birtenshaw School, Merseyside, provides education for those aged 3-19 with significant physical impairment, complex health needs, learning disability and, or, Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

After receiving a £2000 donation from the LFC Foundation Community Fund – the school has purchased a special shower changing trolley, enabling pupils to use the custom-made hydrotherapy pool that is tailored for their needs.

The 25-metre long hydrotherapy pool has a multi-sensory sound and light system including spotlights, matrix lights, underwater lights and projectors to facilitate sensory stimulation.

The LFC Foundation’s Community Fund was set-up using £100,000 of funds raised from last year's LFC Foundation’s Official Legends charity match against AC Milan at Anfield.

Sean Barrett, fundraiser at Birtenshaw School, Merseyside, said: “It’s all about brightening lives and building futures for young people.

“For some pupils to be able to use the pool, they have to change using a special shower trolley. As we only had one shower trolley to begin with – we were able to purchase a second one thanks to the donation made from the LFC Foundation Community Fund.

“Birtenshaw School, Merseyside, is committed to providing opportunities for children and young people to lead ordinary lives, with the purchase of the shower changing trolley assisting them to achieve this aim.

“The school started in September 2018 with 22 pupils and is now close to its maximum capacity of 80.”

Thanks to the donation made through the LFC Foundation’s Community Fund, Birtenshaw School has been able to meet the growing capacity of pupils with the purchase of the shower changing trolley and has now purchased a third in recent months.

LFC Foundation’s Community Fund will be made available again this year, with another £100k being allocated from funds raised at LFC Foundation’s upcoming legends charity game against Barca Legends at Anfield on March 28.
