Liverpool are constantly demanding more from themselves as they try to maintain the 'relentless' pace required in the Premier League, according to Joe Gomez.

The 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday evening saw the Reds remain unbeaten in the division so far this season and moved them up to 27 points from their opening 11 games.

That tally is equal with their best at this stage in the Premier League era – previously achieved in the 2002-03 campaign – and yet Jürgen Klopp’s side will still end the weekend two points behind Manchester City at the top of the table.

“The level of the Premier League now is ridiculous, it’s relentless really,” Gomez explained to the Liverpool Echo after the clash at Emirates Stadium.

“You can’t slip up at any point or teams will capitalise. We have to remember that, regardless of who we are facing. Every point is so important.

“We can’t control what other teams do so there is no point worrying about their results. We just have to focus on ourselves.”

Liverpool ultimately left north London frustrated.

After a frantic first half somehow finished goalless, they established a lead just past the hour mark when James Milner confidently drilled in a loose ball from the edge of the box.

But Alexandre Lacazette hit back for the Gunners eight minutes from time.

In their post-match reflections, both the manager and Milner highlighted the positive nature of being frustrated with taking just a point from a trip to Arsenal.

Gomez echoed that sentiment while simultaneously revealing the determination within the Reds squad to never settle.

“We are always on top of each other as a team, demanding more from ourselves and that’s how it has to be,” added the No.12.

“We got dominated at times in the first half but we still got the first goal and that shows we are capable of still producing when we’ve been under pressure.

“That’s important. If you want to get to where we want to get to then you need to have those credentials. We proved that but we can always improve and that’s what we’ll be trying to do for the next game.”
