Jack Robinson begins backroom role at Melwood

Robinson, who has arrived at Anfield from the Football Association, started work on Monday in his new position alongside John Achterberg within the Reds’ backroom set-up.

“It’s great to be at Liverpool, a club with such a real and rich history of success and winning trophies,” the 33-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com. “Hopefully I can come in and help the club continue to develop on the upward journey it is on.

“It was a difficult decision to leave the FA as I enjoyed my experience and time there, working with some great people and players, but an opportunity to work at a big club like this with a successful manager and team was too good to turn down.

“I’ll be working alongside John with the ‘keepers and helping deliver the sessions, as well as looking at some of the younger goalkeepers coming through – hopefully we’ll see a few more coming through and working at Melwood.”

Robinson, who holds a UEFA A licence in goalkeeping, spent two-and-a-half years with the FA, coaching stoppers for England’s U15-17 levels.

Prior to that, he worked for Manchester United for seven years and also enjoyed stints with Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

First-team goalkeeping coach, Achterberg, added: “It’s really good to have Jack here. He’s been in coaching for a long time; he started out early and has a lot of experience already from his time with the FA and other clubs.

“I got quite a few good reviews about him when we were looking to bring someone in and I think he will fit into the team here really well.

“I looked at his character, I spoke to different people about him and then when I spoke to him, it confirmed the impression I had of what type of guy he is. I said to the boss he would fit in really well here, and after the boss spoke to him he thought the same.

“So, it’s good to have him with us and he will help us with the younger goalies – looking at the young ‘keepers, finding new ones and helping them to develop.”
