Coutinho has had a penchant for scoring against Manchester City from his very first year at Liverpool.

In the near-five years that have followed, he has celebrated five goals in meetings with the same opponent – ranging from the winner in a top-of-the-table 2014 tussle to an equaliser that proved academic at Wembley in 2016.

In terms of pure quality, however, surely none can match the decider he thundered into the far corner from the edge of the box at the Kop end, back in March 2015.

City could have been forgiven for believing the threat was minimal when Coutinho carried the ball to the left edge of the box. But it wasn't.

The attacker launched a bending shot that was equal parts force and precision – dispatched around the hands of Joe Hart and into the net as though guided by GPS.
