Jürgen Klopp previewed Liverpool's trip to Southampton in the Barclays Premier League with a press conference at Melwood on Friday morning - read on to see what the boss had to say...

On setting a target for where his side can finish in the Barclays Premier League...

I can't. If it would help then I would do it but I think it makes not too much sense because there's only Southampton and then [a] two-week break where all the players are around the world and that's really difficult. Hopefully we have a good squad, a good line-up for Southampton because it was intensive yesterday again so we need to figure out who will be available, who is in the best shape and who can play the Southampton game. And then hopefully they all come back healthy - that's pretty important. There are two very important games now for the national teams because it's the last test before the squads will be made for the European Championships. It's an intensive time for the players and hopefully we have all them available for the rest of the season.

On reports of a new deal for Jon Flanagan...

I was a little bit involved in these negotiations and we are all happy, especially for Flanno. It's good for us but, I think in this special case with his long-term injury, it's better for Flanno. Of course, there are a few other full-backs in the world but not so many Scousers and not so many [who] came back after this difficult injury. As I said a few weeks ago, he's our boy and we are really happy to have him here.

I'm not involved in the negotiations about numbers. I don't sit together with the player and say 'no that's too much' or something like this but I was involved in the decision that we would offer him a new contract and which kind of contract.

On his team having confidence for the rest of the season after the result against Manchester United...

We have to see. The problem with confidence is that it is like a little flower and if you step on it [then] it's away in a second. It's much more difficult to let it grow than [to] let it die. It gives us a lot. It should give us a lot but we have to see what will happen in the next days. But of course it is not only about confidence, it is more about feeling more and more trust in our way of play. I don't know in this moment how much we ran yesterday, I don't have the numbers yet. In the first game against United you saw it was really intensive but it was only 112 [kilometres]. When we started here we had 119, 120 [kilometres in games] and didn't win. I always said the problem is that we make our ways by ourselves - that means we lose the ball in the wrong moments so we have to improve and to develop in this part of the game. We are a possession team, we want to play football so the closer you are to the other goal then the more concentrated you have to be and the more simple and quick you have to play for the right moment. If you lose the ball in the wrong moment and you are not in a position for counter-pressing - that's the only reason for counter-pressing, to win the ball back as quick as possible - then you have to make too many kilometres and that makes no sense. I'm fine with this, it's a real development and that's more important than confidence because the players have quality - everybody can see this - so it's important that we feel better in this style of play.

On Southampton...

We played there. It was the perfect result for us, perfect night. It was a nice stadium [with] nice surroundings. Everything will be prepared for a good football game. Southampton is a really good side. We know about this so we have to be at 100 per cent to get something there and if we want a win there then we have to be really, really good. That's all we have to know and we have to use these two days left until the game and then we have to start again.

On Ronald Koeman...

He was a world-class player so please don't make a comparison to myself! He's a brilliant manager, there's no doubt about it. He's done a brilliant job in Southampton so far. Of course there is respect, but the best news is that I don't have to play against Ronald Koeman - our sides will play each other! That makes absolutely more sense and we have a chance then.

On Liverpool doing something special this season...

The only thing I can say is hopefully! But I don't know, so how can I imagine what will happen? Yesterday helped of course but nothing is older than the result of yesterday so we have to be prepared for the rest. It's difficult to imagine what could happen but the only thing we could do is to do our best and get whatever we can get - that's what we try. The last few weeks for us were not perfect from the results but more than OK so we have to carry on in this way. How I said before the game yesterday, we are a possession team but we are a team for intensive style. We need this. We are not a low-rhythm team. We need a high rhythm so if we can do this then we will get a few points. If we collect enough then we will have to see what will happen. In the position which we are, if you want to get up in the table you always have to watch what the other teams are doing and that makes not too much sense because you have no influence on it. We have to win our games as often as possible and we have to see what will happen.
