Get better acquainted with Liverpool's latest signing, 24-year-old Nathaniel Clyne, by checking out our facts about the defender below.

Clyne's professional debut came for Crystal Palace, aged 17, against Barnsley in a Championship game in October 2008. He went on to play 29 matches in total during his maiden season with the Eagles.

During four years in the first team at Selhurst Park, the Englishman was named the club's Young Player of the Year twice - in 2009 and 2010. The Football League Young Player of the Year accolade also came his way in 2010, while a year later - after a season in which he played every single league game for Palace - he was confirmed as the Eagles' Player of the Year.

His performances at the 2010 U19 European Championship earned him a place in the tournament's 'Technical team selection' as one of the seven best defenders on show. Clyne had helped England reach the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by runners-up Spain.

The Stockwell-born right-back claimed a place in the Championship Team of the Year for 2012 alongside former Southampton and now Anfield teammates Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert. That summer, he stepped up to the Barclays Premier League by sealing a switch to the Saints.

The 24-year-old made his senior England debut in November 2014, playing the full game as the Three Lions beat Slovenia 3-1 in a Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley. He had previously built up his international experience by representing his country at both U19 and U21 level.

The full-back will be reunited with three ex-Southampton colleagues in total at Anfield - Lallana, Lambert and Dejan Lovren. Clyne is the eighth man to move from the south coast club to the Reds, with fellow full-back Joseph Hoare the first way back in May 1903.

Clyne faced Liverpool in opposition on five occasions before this transfer, all with Southampton. He was on the winning team twice - once apiece at Anfield and St Mary's - and found the target with a blistering strike on the opening weekend of 2014-15 as the Saints were overturned 2-1 by Brendan Rodgers' charges on Merseyside.

Kopites will be able to get to know Clyne by following the defender's updates on social media - he tweets under the username @Nathaniel_Clyne and shares pictures on Instagram here too. No doubt his number of fans on each platform is about to rise very quickly.

Clyne shares a birthday - April 5 - with 'The Anfield Iron', Tommy Smith, and former Reds striker Fernando Morientes. While the Londoner was celebrating his 10th birthday, Liverpool were drawing 0-0 at the Nou Camp en route to winning the UEFA Cup under Gerard Houllier

Nathaniel has a tattoo of himself as a three-year-old on his arm holding a football. Other tattoos he sports include Big Ben, a phone box and the London Eye.
