Members of the media made a special presentation to Steven Gerrard at the conclusion of his farewell press conference at Melwood on Thursday to thank him for his contributions to the industry over the last 17 years.

The Liverpool Echo's sports editor John Thompson delivered a speech to the captain on behalf of the press in recognition of the generosity of his time in dealing with local, national and international media.

Thompson thanked Gerrard for never shying away from an interview and his honesty, admitting: "Two minutes with Steven Gerrard is worth far more for sports writers, broadcasters and editors than 15 minutes with so many other lads around the land who play the game."

The 34-year-old was then presented with a special red velvet cake and a selection of cupcakes featuring photos of iconic moments throughout his career, which were created by Little Laura's Bakery and organised by the club the recognise the importance of the occasion.

Melwood's press room was packed out for Gerrard's media briefing, with journalists from all around the world in attendance.
