A young participant from LFC Foundation’s Leadership Through Sport and Business (LTSB) programme has won Accountancy Apprentice of the Year at the PQ Magazine awards.

Zane Salmon, from Mossley Hill, fought off stiff competition from across the UK to win the respected award, which was presented during a prestigious ceremony at Café de Paris in London.

The 21-year-old, who is currently working as Assistant Accountant apprentice with Grant Thornton in Liverpool, was nominated for the award by LTSB after joining their 18-month course through LFC Foundation.

Zane said: “I was so happy to win the award. It’s a really nice feeling knowing my hard work has been recognised, but I know that I wouldn’t have received this award without the help from LTSB and the Liverpool FC Foundation.

“The programme has really changed my life - I have grown so much, both personally and professionally, over the last year.”

LTSB prepares and supports bright young people who wouldn’t normally be able to find positions in major firms. Their intensive training, delivered in partnership with LFC Foundation, develops young people personally and professionally, and better prepares them for the world of business and finance.

Zane added: “LTSB and the LFC Foundation have pushed me outside of my comfort zone and have got the best out of me. Their involvement has been essential for my progress and I’ve really grabbed this unique opportunity.”
