Tour 2018: Day four

Follow the latest news, updates, videos, photos and much more from day four of Liverpool's pre-season tour of America, as the Reds move from Charlotte to New Jersey.

We're here!

And, finally, Liverpool have arrived in New Jersey. The second leg of the USA tour can now get under way in earnest from tomorrow, with the Reds set to face Manchester City at the MetLife Stadium.

Wednesday's match brings together two teams who met four times last season - twice in the Premier League and twice in the Champions League. Arguably the pick of the bunch was the 4-3 at Anfield in January...

Cooking class

Jürgen Klopp and LFC's head of nutrition, Mona Nemmer, spent time with some local kids on Monday during a special cookery class in Charlotte. Find out more and see some great photos of the event here.

The next stage

When Liverpool do eventually arrive in New Jersey for their match with Manchester City, it will mark the beginning of a new phase of pre-season.

"We will now increase the game time a little bit, 60 minutes or whatever. We have to see how it feels in New Jersey when we play against City," Klopp explained to us.

"You really need to make the decision in that moment. 45 and 45 is perfect in the moment but from now on we will increase it a little bit."

Inside the plane

Daniel Sturridge has been doing his bit to keep spirits high during the wait for take-off. Check out the striker's takeover of LFC's Instagram Stories feed for a feel of the mood on the plane!

Flight delay

Shaqiri will have to wait a little while longer to meet his new teammates, however.

The team flight from Charlotte to New Jersey has been subject to a significant delay, meaning the squad won't arrive until later.

Look who's here

Xherdan Shaqiri has arrived at the team hotel in New Jersey to officially begin his Liverpool career after completing his post-World Cup holiday. A few fortunate fans where there to get pictures and autographs, too...

Liverpool's time in Charlotte is almost at an end - the Reds have just departed their hotel for the airport, where they will take a two-hour flight to New Jersey for the second leg of their US tour.

Not much explanation needed for this one. Jürgen Klopp being Jürgen Klopp..

Weather

Another hot and humid day is on the cards in Charlotte, where the temperature is already 22 degrees celsius (and it's not even 6am yet!!!).

Rain is forecast in this part of North Carolina this morning, with that expected to give way to more sunshine and temperatures of up to 33 degrees this afternoon.

It's a similar story northwards in New Jersey, too, with rain likely throughout a warm, sticky Tuesday.

Who's excited that Xherdan Shaqiri will join up with the lads in New Jersey, then?

Where else to start, other than with the boss?

We caught up with Jürgen Klopp at the team hotel in Charlotte yesterday.

The full extended interview will be out across our media channels soon, but we thought you'd probably like to hear his thoughts on his plans for the rest of the transfer window in terms of outgoings ASAP...

"When all the players are back the squad is big, so it is clear they all need opportunities to play," said Klopp.

"The ones who are very young, we don’t think about it; they are in absolutely the right place now and if they can play with us or the U23s, it is perfect.

"Both is really good and we don’t have to rush that, but then we have other age groups where you think it makes no sense to show in a different league, maybe a different club in a different league, how far they are in the moment. Then of course, it is clear there are always requests from other clubs and we need to stay open for that.

"In the end, it makes no sense to have 35 players in the squad because developing players means they have to feel needed; they need to see ‘in this or this situation, I can play in the team' and all that stuff.

"I am pretty sure a few things will happen, but exactly what time will show."
