Liverpool are continuing their pursuit of Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio and are ready to make a £158m bid, according to reports in Spain.

Jürgen Klopp is said to be a huge fan of Asensio and sees him as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

Klopp tried and failed to complete a deal for Nabil Fekir before the start of the World Cup, and he has now been linked with Real Madrid.

And Liverpool are said to be continuing their pursuit of Asensio, according to regional television station Telemadrid, and picked up by national title AS.

Asensio was even asked about the links to Liverpool after Spain’s final Group B match in Russia, but he answered it bluntly and insisted his focus was on the international side.

"Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we'll talk about that sort of thing, now I'm focused on selection,” he told reporters.

But Asensio is thought to be frustrated at the way he dropped out of the Madrid line up last season after a blistering start to the season, and his end to the previous campaign.
