Arturo Vidal has emerged as a target for Liverpool, according to surprise reports.

Liverpool have spent most of this summer trying to sign Naby Keita from RB Leipzig.

The Reds have had two bids for the Guinea midfielder rejected by the Bundesliga club, who are refusing to sell.

And according to World Football Index, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has turned to Bayern Munich star Vidal.

Apparently sources in Chile claim the 30-year-old has been targeted by Klopp ahead of the transfer window deadline on August 31.

Vidal has also been linked with Serie A giants Inter Milan, having joined Bayern from Juventus in 2015.

Klopp needs more strength in midfield having let Lucas Leiva leave for Lazio this summer and had made Keita his No1 target.

But Leipzig are determined not to let the 22-year-old go despite claims suggesting a release clause in his contract activates next summer.

And with Adam Lallana injured, Klopp has turned to other options.

Vidal has been an important player at Bayern Munich over the last two seasons, but may find game-time harder to come by this term.

The Chile international started Bayern’s German Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, scoring in the penalty shootout.

But although Xabi Alonso has retired, Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti has bolstered his midfield with Sebastian Rudy, Corentin Tolisso and forwards James Rodriguez and Kingsley Coman.

Liverpool face a tricky two-legged Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim this month and Klopp will be keen to bring in new faces sooner rather than later.
