Transfer U-turn gives Reds upper hand in chase for defender
Liverpool are reportedly back in the running to sign defender Martin Caceres because Juventus won't sell to a domestic rival, according to reports.
The Reds were thought to be lagging behind three Italian sides in the race to land the 28-year-old centre-back Caceres this January.
They are in need of reinforcements at the back as manager Jurgen Klopp contends with an injury crisis.
The boss drafted in Steven Caulker on loan from QPR this week to help improve his back-four.
Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho returned from injury to pair up at centre-half Liverpool during their 3-3 draw with Arsenal last night.
And a bid for Uruguay international Caceres is reportedly being prepared in order to sooth Klopp's selection headache.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport state that English clubs could hold the upper hand over a bid this month.
It is claimed bosses at Juventus will not let former Barcelona man Caceres join another Serie A side.
Inter Milan, AC Milan and Roma are all supposedly keen to sign the definer, who has made just four appearances for Juve all season.
But with Juve entrenched in a title battle alongside both Inter and Roma, they are unlikely to offer either rival a helping hand.
